If you are looking for cheap training, recorded videos may be an option, but they don't necessarily offer a quality training. This article compares the benefits and drawbacks of SQL Server training using recorded videos.

If you Google for "SQL Server online training", you may find several websites offering low cost online training. Many of them are titled "Instructor led online training".

Don't be cheated by seeing the word "instructor led". I personally telephoned several companies which claim to offer such training. I ignored all companies which offer instructor led training for less than $500 since I knew they cannot afford to do so. However, I wanted to find out the truth behind the companies which offer online training for more than $500. As I thought they all agreed to me that it is "just recorded videos of an instructor giving training". There will be no direct interaction with a trainer. There will be no option to clarify your doubts.

If you want to go for recorded videos, never pay more than $100 for such a training since it is just not worth it.

Benefits of live, instructor led online training


Even if it costs some extra money, it is definitely worth going for a training program by a live person. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and get your doubts clarified.

CAUTION: Even in case of training by a live person, many institutes do not allow you to ask questions since such training programs are attended by 100s of people at the same time.

Some good live online training programs allow you do some lab work and submit it for review. This will be a big plus because learning by doing is the best way to do it.
